Other Things to do in Florida – Ten Pin Bowling

One of the things we like to do as a family in the UK is have a game of Ten Pin Bowling, and we try to make time to visit a local Bowling Alley whenever we are on holiday. This family pastime has seen us in local Bowls on holidays to countries such as France, Portugal, Majorca, Cyprus, Crete, Corfu and of course, the home of Ten Pin Bowling - America.

This is a great way to spend some time having fun together, especially on the very few occasions in Florida when the weather is not good.

Bowling is fun for adults and kids alike – the kids can have bumpers in the lane gutters to make hitting the pins easier and the bowling balls come in a variety of weights (from 6lbs to 16lbs) and finger hole sizes to suit all ages and abilities. The scoring is electronic and calculates your score automatically and this is displayed on the screen above your lane.

There are two local Bowling Alleys: -

AMF - Kissimmee Lanes
4140 West Vine Street
KISSIMMEE, FL 34742
(407) 846-8844

- which is located close to Medieval Times, set back between Walmart and the Airboat Rentals site, and

AMF - Sky Lanes
7401 S. Orange Blossom Trl.
ORLANDO, FL 32809
(407) 855-5731

- which is located on the same road as Gatorland.

The Bowls in Florida often offer group/family bowling packages, which include things like drinks, popcorn, shoe hire and bowling for a very reasonable price. The Bowls are open 7 days per week, from around 9.00 am until midnight or even later and you don’t normally need to book in advance – just turn up, slip on your bowling shoes, enter your names into the electronic scoring system, and off you go. But if you want to make sure that you can bowl at a specific time, it’s easy to just phone and reserve a lane. If you are a member of the AA (UK) or AAA (US) you can also get a discount off the normal price of bowling, just present proof of membership when paying for the bowling.

The Bowls also offer Diner-style food, such as burgers, pizzas and hotdogs, plus a bar area and a games area so even if you don’t want to join in with the bowling, there are other things to keep you occupied.

We’ve always been made very welcome when we have bowled in Florida – it’s really fun.
