Visit a “real” Flea Market for a great day outFlorida Guide > Other Activities Regular visitors to the Orlando/Disney may well have stopped off at the Flea Markets on the 192. The two main locations on the 192 are a popular stop for bargain shoppers with each having around 2-300 booths selling all kinds of goods, from jewellery to car accessories to tee shirts to cd’s right through to bizarre tools to extract teeth and even assault-tazers of all things.Well if you’ve visited these booths on the 192 and liked what you see then there are a couple of treats awaiting you further east on the 192 heading towards St Cloud, and also up north near Sanford Airport – both of which only open at weekends and are far bigger than their smaller weekday cousins. The one closest to most of the Orlando area Vacation homes is the “Osceola Flea and Famers Market”. This is held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and opens at 8am, closing at 5pm. It is located on the 192 between Kissimmee and St Cloud at 2801 East Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway, about 5 miles east of Historic Downtown Kissimmee. Parking and admission is free and there can be upwards of around 900 booths each weekend. The Market specializes in Antiques and Collectibles, but also has numerous other stalls as well the usual Florida souvenirs. Further north is FleaWorld another weekend market (Fri-Sun 9am-6pm) which is even bigger, and described as “America’s Largest Flea Market”. This is located on Highway 17-92 between Orlando and Sanford. From your vacation villas it is best reached by taking the I-4 north to junction 94, then turn right onto the 434 until you reach the junction with the 17-92 – take a left and the Flea Market is a couple of miles north on your right hand side. FleaWorld is huge and can take a full day to get around, assuming you have the energy – there are over 1700 booths selling almost everything you imagine. Attached to Fleaworld is Funworld – a small amusement park to placate the kids with after dragging them around all the stalls. There is even a small circus-type area with clowns and magic acts each weekend to keep you amused. For bargain hunters and villa owners, the place is a treasure trove – from souvenirs through to home furnishings this market has something for everyone. Although trying to explain to little Johnny that he can’t have the little cute puppy dog that is for sale and that it might be difficult getting it on the plane can be a challenge! The main market areas are fully covered from the heat of the sun, and some areas (the “gold” stalls) are even air-conditioned. One thing to watch out for is that the amusement park area only opens on Saturday and Sunday. Both markets offer a great alternative to the normal shopping areas and are well worth a visit.
