Traditional Meals at Cracker Barrel

Florida Guide > Dining

If you want to take your family to a restaurant where they serve traditional food that doesn’t cost the earth – try Cracker Barrel.

We chose this restaurant as every time we passed by it, the car park was always full, regardless of the time of day.

Upon approaching, we noticed a row of rocking chairs outside – some Americans were happily rocking backwards and forwards on them.

We realised upon entering that this wasn’t just a restaurant – it was also a shop. When we visited in November the shop was adorned with Christmas orientated gifts, ornaments, recipe books and many other items. We also immediately noticed the freshly homemade pecan pies.

After browsing at the items in the shop, we enquired about a table and were lucky enough not to have to wait.

We browsed the breakfast and lunch menus but eventually decided on the “special” of the day which happened to be Turkey ‘N’ Dressing. We were given a huge choice of vegetables to choose from, as well as being asked if we wanted cornbread or biscuit.

As with American standards, the servings were generous. The food was very appetising and did not disappoint. The opinion all round was that it was very enjoyable and satisfying. When the bill came we were amazed to find how reasonable the meal was.

Overall, we agreed that there were meals to suit every taste. As well as countless traditional foods, such as meatloaf, roast beef, dumplings turkey and chicken, there was also steak and fish. There were specials of the day, sandwich platters and for all fast food addicts - burgers! They also catered for people on low carb diets.

Our only criticism was that we were too full to try the gorgeous deserts.
