A different day out
Florida Guide > Other Florida
Why not have a relaxing day out away from the theme parks:
Mount Dora
Located approximately 25 miles northwest of Orlando, the City retains the atmosphere of a small town but it is quite hilly, there are several lakes, large canopy oak trees and historic buildings.
Mount Dora itself was established in 1880. The mount refers to the fact that the city sits 266 feet above see level. It is just is a different unique place to visit
Mount Dora is one of the best antique shopping areas I have seen in Florida there are many shops all with something different. Renninger’s Antique Market has many weekend fares held each year.
There are lots of coffee shops and restaurants serving a wide range of food, you can eat out side and enjoy a glass of wine and watch the lovely sunsets
Over the years we have been going we have tried several restaurants all of them very good. Last time we tried the Windsor Rose English Tea Room and Restaurant, where authentic English fare is served. They also have a gift shop next door
There is also a trolley bus running all around the city it is a fully narrated tour and the guide was very knowledgeable pointing out who build which house and all about the family’s history
You can also take a day trip on the water way or have a sunset cruise.
We took a walk around the city and found the architecture to be so different from anywhere else in Florida. We found that very few houses were alike
We noticed there were several festivals and events advertised throughout the year such as the spring art festival and the fall craft festival. There is also a sailing regatta which is held during the spring months
We were there at Christmas time and the homes were beautifully decorated and they had a Christmas walk down Main Street there was lots of free entertainment, Carole singers and a Father Christmas for the children.
What ever time of year there always seems to be some event or other going on
